Youth Program:
Each year HCS provides summer work opportunities for youths between the ages of 14 and 24 through the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). Due to the high demand, youth are selected through a random drawing of applicants. Selected applicants then attend a career fair to explore different career opportunities. Youth who are interested in HCS, sign up and then come in for an orientation to begin the summer work program at our centers.
In this unique program, we offer intergenerational activities for the youth to work with the elders in our community. Additionally this program gives the youth a chance to gain real-life work-related experience and to develop social, civic and leadership skills.
Our Youth Leadership and Civic Engagement Initiative (YLCE) believes youth are integral to our local community. YLCE provides the city’s youth with the opportunities to develop healthy civic habits, skills, and commitment by building their skills and knowledge that can empower them to make a difference in the community. We believe the youth today can bring fresh new ideas to the table, and be a force of energy, passion, and inspiration for social change.
