13th Anniversary Event Celebrate HCS Impact and Bright Future
Updated: Feb 8, 2018
Members of HCS Bensonhurst Neighborhood Senior Center were bestowed certificates of appreciation for their long-time commitment to HCS in the past 13 years at HCS' 13th Anniversary Party. A big birthday cake was shared with all the seniors to celebrate for this special occasion.
Before HCS Bensonhurst senior center was founded there were few service providers that were focused on the Asian immigrant community in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. HCS wanted to fill a void as it had in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood by creating a center that would support the needs of this growing population that had been greatly undeserved. Senator Golden saw this need too in his district and helped to fund the initial start of the center in the early years. When the doors opened in 2004, Asian seniors poured into the center with over 200 seniors ready to register as members. However, due to budget limitations, the Center was opened only for three days.
Today it is a senior center funded through the NYC Dept of Aging. The stable funding have helped HCS Bensonhurst senior center to expand its days to open five days a week, hire more staff, expand on programming and services, increase our meal program and much more. The seniors and staff see a bright future together!

Special recognition to HCS seniors.
